Homecoming Scotland 2014 will welcome visitors from around the world to join our inspirational year-long celebration. In the year that Scotland hosts the Commonwealth Games and The Ryder Cup, a nation-wide programme of events will run throughout 2014 to put this dynamic and creative nation firmly on the international stage.
Recognising the success of the Homecoming Scotland 2009 celebrations in rallying Scotland around a common theme, a series of years of focus were established to take the country through to 2014. The years spotlight some of Scotland’s greatest assets; food and drink, our reputation as an active destination, a place of culture and creativity, and a place of natural beauty.
The road to 2014
Year of Food & Drink
From May 2010 to May 2011, Scotland celebrated its stunning natural larder with visitors and locals alike. As one of Scotland's most distinct attributes, food and drink continues to play a strong role in shaping our cultural identity and heritage. The Year of Food and Drink showcased this wonderful natural resource and regional delicacies, from events and festivals promoting the very best of Scotland's larder to award-winning chefs and local producers.
Active Scotland
2011 was the Year of Active Scotland, a time when we celebrated and promoted the benefits of an Active Scotland. Scotland is the perfect stage for the biggest and best events and our diverse landscapes and cities provide the perfect backdrop to get active. During the year outdoor enthusiasts were encouraged to Grab a Glen and experience some of the country’s great landscapes, not to mention a range of great value deals offering fantastic active pursuits.
Year of Creative
Year of Creative Scotland in 2012 is celebrating and promoting Scotland's cultural and creative vibrancy. A celebration of our creative assets, there is no better time than now to experience fantastic festivals, great cities and Scotland's historical and contemporary icons. This year will shine a spotlight on the contribution that people and places play in making this country a leading creative nation and create a global platform for the talent of today's creative Scotland.
