The 'Home of Golf'

Gleneagles, one of Scotland's finest golfing venuesScotland is known throughout the world as the 'Home of Golf' and with over 550 courses of high quality and great diversity, it's easy to see why. The Scots have constantly shown themselves to be dab hands at turning any stretch of unused land into a golf course of exquisite quality, whether by the sea, over the moors, in the heart of luscious countryside, on hillsides or through heather and gorse-fringed heathland.

Carnoustie golf course, one of Scotland's Championship coursesWhen it comes to the Open Championship, regarded by many as the biggest and best event on the global golfing calendar, Scotland and its golfing public are spoilt. That's because the event is staged in the 'Home of Golf' at least every other year, with St Andrews, Muirfield, Carnoustie, Royal Troon and Turnberry all on the list of selected venues for this annual golfing extravaganza.

The Scots have a reputation throughout the world for being friendly and nowhere is this friendliness to visitors more evident than on the  fairways and clubhouses of Scotland's golf clubs.
